Foghat, Rock And Roll Outlaws (1974): It's probably not all that fair to the Foghatters that I listened to this album while undergoing the unfortunate task of doing my taxes. It's quite possible that my ambivalence for the band came about as a result of guilt by association. I don't know, but there were things I liked, and things I didn't.

Best of Foghat captures the band's finer moments. Slow Ride" with its funky-boogie bass line and guitar harmony leads was every air-guitarist's dream come true, and the long breakdown at the song's mid-point that finally erupted into scorching fret work epitomized the "big rock ending" of the 1970s. Fool for the City" was another rush of rock and roll adrenaline, with its repeated chorus and steady straight four/four beat. 5 people found this helpful.
It also featured the best Foghat album cover of the band’s career, or at least the most interesting. The second album released by the band was self titled. Many fans have referred to this album as the Rock and Roll, album because of the rock and bread roll pictured on the cover. Foghat’s third album Energized. produced an array of amazing cover versions of old school blues songs that would be quite frankly, energized by the Foghat sound. The opening track was a cover of the Lou Turner classic Honey Hush. The band’s arrangement of the song intermixed the rhythmic nature of another legendary blues classic Train Kept a Rollin’. The Night Shift album was sandwiched between two of Foghat’s most successful albums of their career. It was at a time when the band was enjoying great popularity and success. I saw the band numerous times during that period and they never disappointed.
