Samuel Roy Hagar (born October 13, 1947), also known as The Red Rocker, is an American rock vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, musician and entrepreneur. Hagar came to prominence in the 1970s with the hard rock band Montrose. He then launched a successful solo career, scoring an enduring hit in 1984 with "I Can't Drive 55". He enjoyed commercial success when he replaced David Lee Roth as the lead singer of Van Halen in 1985, but left in 1996
It is also often referred to as The Red Album, as it includes Hagar's first anthem, "Red", which is also the basis for his nickname "The Red Rocker"
Sammy Hagar has released a e video in which he reflects on the VAN HALEN album "5150", which was released 33 years ago - on March 24, 1986. The VAN HALEN era, the 'Van Hagar' era, for me, was really unique, because on the first tour, on the '5150' tour, we didn't play anybody else's songs, except one of mine - we played ' One Way To Rock' - and we played 'You Really Got Me'," Hagar said. And then, for an encore, we played 'Jump'
Sammy Hagar has been all about spontaneity over the past few years. When he went into the studio to make his last album, ‘Sammy Hagar & Friends,’ he wasn’t even planning to make a new one so soon. As he told us at the time, he was planning to record a few new songs for a anthology that would cover his career, but what happened was something completely different. He ended up with a full album of songs recorded with his friends and completely off the cuff. Hagar's latest avenue took him to ‘Lite Roast,’ an album of acoustic versions of songs from his back catalog, recorded with longtime guitarist Vic Johnson. I have all of your albums, and when I was looking at the track listing yesterday, I had to look ‘Sailin’’ up to see what record that’s on! Was it ‘Livin’ It Up’? Yes, exactly!
